This policy is with respect to the display of advertisements by GSI Media, Inc. on behalf of its clients. This policy does not apply to other GSI Commerce companies or to services other than the service described below. For information on another GSI Commerce company’s use of data, please refer to the applicable website.
GSI Media works with many companies that sell or advertise their goods and services on the Internet (“Advertisers”) and helps these advertisers connect with their current and potential customers, such as yourself (“Customers”). We do this by displaying our Advertisers’ ads to those Customers that we believe, based on the information we collect, would be most interested in those goods and services. To display these ads, we purchase ad space on websites across the Internet where these Customers might visit (“Ad Network”). The goals of our service include:
- Provide Customers with ads for goods and services that interest them.
- Provide Customers with knowledge and control over how data about them is being used.
- Provide our Advertisers with more cost effective advertising by displaying their ads to Customers that are more likely to have an interest in their goods or services.
- Provide websites in our Ad Network with ads that are related to the interests of their website visitors.
What Data Do We Collect and How
First, and most importantly, we do not collect your name, address, email address, social security number, credit card number or any other information that directly identifies you unless you specifically and voluntarily provide this information to us (such as contacting us via email). We do not know who you are. The data we collect and use in our advertising programs is anonymous data about your interaction with our Advertisers and Ad Network websites that you might visit. For example, an Advertiser may send us anonymous information about your visit to the Advertiser’s website, including the time and date of the visit, the goods or services you recently viewed or purchased, your browser type, cookie data, and/or clickstream data (discussed more fully below). We might then use that information to present you with an ad related to that Advertiser’s or another Advertiser’s goods and services if you later visit a website in our Ad Network where we have purchased ad space.
We collect data through three primary methods: tags, clickstream data and cookies. A ‘tag’ (also called a pixel tag or web beacon) is a method for the Advertiser to send us information about the content of an Advertiser’s webpage when that webpage is viewed by you. The Advertiser may place tags on any of the webpages on its website. We place tags on the ad we display to record which ads we have shown you, when, and if you clicked on or interacted with any of these ads.
We also collect anonymous data through clickstream data. Clickstream data is a trail of electronic information that is left at each website you visit. This information can be collected and stored by a site's server. We may, for example, use clickstream data to tell us the type of computer and browsing software you use, your inbound search query, the address of the site from which you linked to a site in our Ad Network, how much time you spend on each page of a site, how you navigate throughout the site and how we may tailor advertisements or pages of sites in our Ad Network to better meet the needs of our business partners.
A "cookie" is a small text file stored on your computer through your Internet browser program. The cookies may be either GSI Media cookies or an Advertiser’s cookies. We store an anonymous number in a cookie to identify your computer and browser so that we can associate information we collect with your Internet browser and computer. We may also store certain anonymous tag and clickstream data in these cookies. When you first visit one of our Advertisers’ websites, we place these cookies on your computer.
You should note that although most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies, you may be able to change your browser settings to cause your browser to refuse third-party cookies or to indicate when a third-party cookie is being sent. Check your browser's "Help" files or other similar resources to learn more about handling cookies on your browser.
How to Opt-Out of the Advertising Program
If you do not want to receive the benefits of our advertising program, you may ‘opt out’ by using one of the following methods:
You can also opt out of this and other advertising programs operated by us by clicking here.
Or you can adjust your Internet browser settings to prevent the use of third party cookies or all cookies. However, disabling cookies may cause you to lose some important functionality on the websites you visit. If our Advertiser program uses the Advertiser’s cookies, that program will still function if you disable only third party cookies because the Advertiser’s cookies are viewed as first party cookies by your browser.
When you opt out of our advertising programs using the link above, we write an opt-out message into the program cookies on your computer. We will continue to receive information about you however, we will not use this information in an Advertiser’s program if we read an opt-out message in the cookie on your computer. We may still display ads to you, but those ads will not be targeted based on your behavioral information. If you later delete the program cookies, we will no longer know that you requested to opt-out, and you will be opted back in with new cookies and a new anonymous identification number the next time you visit an Advertiser’s website. You will then need to repeat one of the opt-out methods described above to opt-out of our targeted advertising programs.
Data Security & Retention
We pledge to protect the security of data about you in our possession using reasonable methods available to us. The methods we use to protect this data may vary based on the type or amount of data we store. However, we cannot guarantee that your information will be completely protected from unauthorized access, and you assume such risk when you use our services. The information we store is kept for only as long as long as necessary to operate the program and is then deleted. The program cookies and the data contained in them will remain on your computer until you delete them.
Do We Share Information with Third Parties
We may also disclose information about you when required by law, judicial process, warrant, subpoena or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to protect the rights and interests of GSI Media, our Advertisers, Ad Network, vendors or supplies, or the rights and interests of a third party.
Protection for Children
We have no intention of collecting personal information from children under the age of 13. When we become aware that personal information from a child under 13 has been collected without such child's parent or guardian's consent, we will use all reasonable efforts to delete such information from our database.
